Grandpa's Cellar

Grandpa's Cellar is located at Cable Road about eight miles east of Placerville in California and is midway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Here visitors can purchase apples and apple related goods as well as take an interesting walk along a nature trail. The apples sold here are grown at an elevation of 3,100 feet, where the warm days and cool nights produce good quality fruit.

Tours are available between September and November on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting from 10.30am and lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Visitors can learn more about the processes of apple farming and the steps taken to make the specialty baked goods sold at the on-site shops. The bake shop has many baked apple items such as pies, strudels and cheesecakes as well as apple juice. Other gift items can be bought from the country store.

Visitors can take their picnics and enjoy them on the lawn under the old apple trees, which are surrounded by Ponderosa Pine and Incense Cedar trees. The nature trail is open seven days a week between September and November from 10am to 5pm, and thereafter Friday to Sundays only until mid December. To assist visitors there are signs for each plant species along the trail as well as various items of trivia.
