Description: Following the September 11, 2001 tragedy, NORAD was closed to visitors until further notice. Call for current information. When the facility is open to the public, tours often fill six months ahead of time, so call early, for reservations are required. A bus takes visitors to the mountaintop auditorium for a briefing, slide show, and explanation of the mission of Cheyenne Mountain. Then visitors ride a bus through a tunnel to the NORAD Command Center—the entire complex is underground. Inside the facility visitors can walk around in a restricted area. Visitors also see an industrial area with reservoirs and turbines that power the facility. For obvious reasons, this is a high-security tour and you’ll be asked for a photo I.D. and Social Security number.
