If this happens, I'll be shocked because same issues are still present that shut the mall down in the first place.

People are hopeful, I get it. But the majority of the reaction to date is that this is pie in the sky wishful thinking. I've lived in Augusta my whole life and this simply doesn't make any sense, neither does none of the owners being present at the announcement.
The announcement was done to help Kendrick win. The owners probably were not planning on announcing anything anytime soon since it’s still to early in the process to even know of this is going to be a reality. All Kendrick is doing is getting peoples hopes up for something like that has a slim chance of even happening and I hope it backfires on him.

All the cities in Georgia (Not on Atlanta's level)
just need a new generation of developers and planners...
Augusta could literally be so much more

Looks like Kendrick's Regency Mall publicity stunt backfired. Congratulations to Augusta's next mayor, Garnett Johnson

Bet it's a long time before we hear anything about that 'revitalization' plan again.

I wanted Garnett to win. He is gonna be a great mayor for the city and hopefully can spark some quick growth as he already has a decent relationship with certain commissioners. Growth, action, and results!!

Problem is though that growth takes money and to get that you need to attract people to invest in the CSRA and that can be difficult to do if you do not hold property owners accountable for blighted eyesores like the old mall.
