After seeing this comment, this makes me realize I miss summer festivals and events already. Since there are barely any that go on once Christkindlmarket ends, till about May. Yes I know there are a few exceptions like the Chinese New Year's Parade(and DARNIT do I miss that one TOO often) and St. Patrick's Day parade(downtown and south side one on south Western Ave), but not much goes on until May.

I will say every summer(never mind it is a little out of the way, but I don't mind doing a combination of Metra Electric and biking to get to it), I do try to go to Pierogifest in Whiting, Indiana. Their next one is on July 26 through July 28, of 2024. I did always like Square Roots Festival, since I see another poster mentioned that one.

And of course, the restart of outdoor farmer's markets(many around May, but a few don't start till early June) will be nice. There are a handful of indoor ones in winter, but it's unfortunate not a lot go on.

I did just hear a few days back that Scooter's Frozen Custard will reopen Friday, March 1st, so that will be nice. Still haven't heard an opening day for Miko's Italian Ice, but I know they've traditionally opened sometime around mid-April. Ava's Italian Ice will likely reopen soon as well, too.

One last question, has anyone ever been to Paulo Gelato(address is 1058 W. Chicago Ave) before? Looking them up, they were hinting at a late March reopening for this year.

Fests are like those things you miss when you can't go, then you go, and it's a mixed bag, IMO.

Tier 1 priority for me: Square Roots, Apple Fest, Mayfestivfersary and Octoberfestiversary at Begyle/Dovetail, Air and Water Show (not really a fest, but we make sure to go to Belmont Harbor for that every year).

Tier 2 priority: Midsommar Fest in Andersonville, Wicker Fest, Ravenswood on Tap

Others that are maybes: Do Division, Randolph, Pride, Tacos y Tamales,

Ones I've tried but wasn't much into: Ribfest Northcenter, Roscoe Burger Fest, West Fest (too loud/young for me), Lincoln Ave. Fest (too young for me). Generally not into fests that are hyper-focused on one food item.

Once I've been there/done that and don't need to do again: Maifest, Octoberfest in Lincoln Square. Again, these are very "one note".

There are a bunch more that I haven't been to that just haven't piqued my interest as much. But open to them.

Also, there are a couple smaller ones that pop up that are fun. Dancin' in the Streets by On Tour brewing is a low key one that's kind of fun.

That's actually a REALLY good deal for drinks and it's a little wild that you can get 9 of them. lol. If I didn't have a 1 year old I would definitely be hitting that place up.

Happy weekend,

What a gorgeous Saturday. I parked near Elston and Webster. I biked to Ignotz on 24th and Oakley.... To celebrate Cinco de Mayo I put the jalapenos and the Chile flakes on it.

Que viva Mexico (I'm not sure what that means in English, but it sounds good!)

Good morning,

I hope you all had a great day celebrating Mothers' Day with your loved ones on a gorgeous day!

This upcoming weekend is the Skokie Festival of Cultures at Oakton Park.

I'll be there with my Tae Kwon Do kids class which is scheduled to do a short demonstration on Saturday, May 18th, from 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. (I believe on the south end of the park).

If you are able to, come by and support the team, and say HI!
