So we are moving to Lubbock for work reasons from Jacksonville, Florida. It's true Florida and my favorite city in the state by a mile.

My wife is born/bred Texan and I'm originally from Kansas and we have a twelve year old. We've zeroed in on Kelsey Park on the assumption that it would be a tad easier for us to meet people and for our son to make new friends around the block. Are there a lot of kids and young families (we're lower 40's), and I'm worried that we'd become the old people there.

It is scary moving into a new area and not knowing anyone, especially for our son. He's as easy going and friendly as it comes, though.

Beyond that we are diehard golfers and love convivial places and music and travel.

Guess I’ll try to take a stab at some of this. I don’t live there, but know a few who do.

Kelsey Park is a new neighborhood, in a fast-growing part of the city. There should be plenty of people of all ages in or around it. They’re building a new HS around there, so that could be an indicator as to who lives there.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen on another forum that golf isn’t currently a strength in South Lubbock. Red Feather is a new course opening next year (very close to Kelsey Park), but its intended market is VERY exclusive. Lakeridge CC enjoys a bit of a monopoly on that side of town, and can get crowded.

The Rawls Course at Texas Tech is an affordable and excellent college course, but crowds can be an issue. I think Lubbock and Hillcrest CC’s are very good. Those three are in the northern part of the city/county, and are a bit of a drive, if that’s a problem. Not sure about the others.

Buddy Holly Hall just opened last year, and hosts many musical acts (some legendary). Tech’s United Supermarkets Arena has hosted big names over the years. There are several smaller indoor and outdoor venues, mainly around downtown.

All that said, I hope you enjoy your time there.

Thank you for the insight. That's similar to what I was thinking.

What makes you think Red Feather will be VERY exclusive? The price or what it'll eventually take to get in?

Scroll down to “Memberships.”

It does look like an innovative course, and I like the use of stored rainwater for irrigation.
