I think it ought to be renamed. Lots of people are already calling it simply "Lee" or "Tyler Lee." The school has a pretty racist past (name wise and the timing of it, the former mascot, etc.). That being said, my biracial kids attended Lee and didn't have any problems with racism. But I always have found the name to be ironic.

This is nothing more than Marxism coming from the left. Every time a name is changed, you are getting steamrolled by the lefty commies. They are erasing history. If Texas caves, there's no hope for the rest of the country. Learn to speak Mandarin.

Well, African-Americans aren't Chinese, the last time I looked. The last time I looked, the vast majority of African-Americans aren't communists either. They want to be full citizens of the nation, and to feel that the rest of the citizens take them on their own individual merits.

I'm a white Southerner and proud of it. I also believe that schools named after Confederates should probably be renamed. It doesn't matter how many times you argue that the Civil War wasn't about slavery, the fact remains that a significant number of black AMERICANS feel unwelcome in places named after Confederates. Why should we keep something that divides AMERICANS - in the face of global warming, threats from the outside, a worldwide pandemic, etc., etc., etc.?

As far as I know, that’s the last name I heard for it. It feels a bit odd and like a placeholder, though. I think it’s open to some criticism vis a vis what “legacy” are they trying to uphold - the same Robert E. Lee legacy? Yeah, I know that’s a bit of a stretch but even aside from that, like I said, it just doesn’t feel quite...complete.

Well, it beats the heck out of Robert E Lee High School in my opinion. Oh well.

When you attend the former Lee you will have a tangible Legacy to take with you. Or something like you will have a top-notch Legacy to share if you graduate from Legacy High. Who knows, but that certainly could have chosen a worse name. I KNOW they did not want to name the school after a human, they figured everyone nowadays might have skeletons in their closets, lol.
