I currently live in Toledo OH after a move out of FL for economic reasons that very nearly left me homeless. I'm 63 and existing solely on early Social Security Retirement benefits. Toledo has been okay, but not as convenient as I had hoped for someone minus a car. I qualify for affordable income senior housing and after having lived in DC for many years have targeted the area as an option to move to. A building of interest is Gateway Village in Capitol Heights which appears to be a nice, well-appointed highrise building on Suffolk Avenue south of Central Avenue. Is this a relatively safe area if walking/carless and is it convenient to the Metro station in Capitol Heights?

It's relatively safe but not really that walkable except to go to the Metro.

I couldn't really see it on a map, how far away is the Metro Station or better yet where is the Capitol Heights station located?

It's about ten minutes walk. The metro is on Southern Ave I believe right on the DC border. Blue/Silver Line.

Unless its been cleaned up a lot in the last decade plus, I would not live in Capitol Heights.
