Augusta's uneployment continues to drop every month.. I'm sure will start to see some faster movement at VAR..

Especially since Wheeler Town Park is starting to pick up the pace....

Harlingen, TX-April 30, 2010--Bass Pro Shops, America's most popular outdoor store, continues its retail growth with the announcement they will open their 57th destination outdoor superstore in Harlingen, Texas. The store will be from 130,000 to 150,000 square feet and will be the signature anchor for the Cameron Crossing retail development to be located at intersection of U.S. Expressways 83 and 77. The store is tentatively scheduled to open late second quarter or early third quarter 2011.

Bass Pro Shops: News Releases: Bass Pro Shops to Open New Store in Harlingen, TX

Augusta we have a problem or do we?

It appears that Bass Pro Shops has started building again. Not only are they selecting new locations and preparing to build, they have also started construction on locations that were previously announced before and during the recession.

When is it going to be Augusta's turn?

Lincoln county may be the next county to join the metro. Or Jefferson county which is near Plant Vogtle...
Home construction expected this summer at lakeside development | The Augusta Chronicle
Stillwater Coves, a planned luxury lake-side subdivision with about 400 home sites, first ran into delays when Atlanta-based Land Resources Companies filed for bankruptcy in 2008.

The development, located northeast of Lincolnton on Thurmond Lake, was purchased by Florida-based EvDevo LLC, which has been working since 2009 to complete the $50 million project.

The company also has completed design plans for the subdivision's club house and will submit them for a building permit, Grafton said. Roads, wells and water lines have already been completed for the project. So far, about 160 home sites have been sold, Grafton said.

What were the other hits?

BottleTek is building a facility with new good paying jobs.. American Tire built a $4 million 81,000 sq. ft facility and added jobs. Procter and Gamble and Kelloggs both expanded and added jobs. Fairfield Inn, Comfort Inn & Suites(first green hotel in Augusta), and other new hotels have opened.... Rolling Hills Golf Range is open behind Holiday Inn and Fairfield Inn.

A 300 acre mix-use development is going up near the airport... The development will create a new town.

I wouldn't consider a Golden Corral closing a hit... IMO a major company leaving South Augusta is a hit... Other restaurants have opened(Golden Hibachi, Crazy Barbecue and Wings, Hunting Island Fish Market, etc) in South Augusta. And it looks like some type of food place is under construction on windsor spring road... Somebody will occupy the golden corral in the future.

Remember Colony Plaza is adding 4 acres of development. And a small center is going up in the median of windsor spring road. I'm sure will see a couple of new restaurants.

Yeah, okay Nortonguy. My point is that it's not like there are a lot of options in South Augusta. When one store/restaurant/anything closes you happen to notice it on the southside. Sure there are all the staple fastfood places in South Augusta, but what else. Golden Hibachi, I enjoy eating there, but they are just like any other Chinese/Japanese restaurant with the exception that you can have some items cooked on their hibachi grill and from what I've heard they're nothing compared to the new hibachi restaurant in Augusta West Plaza. Sure they're building something in the median between windsor spring rd., chances are it's another fastfood restaurant. C'mon it's going up right next to the Checkers, car wash, and gas station. What else could it be?

If a restaurant closes in west Augusta or downtown, nobody feels it nor care. Some company always comes along and snaps up the location. For instance, Tony Roma's is gone and Carolina Ale is taking it's place. Not to mention that Cheddar's opened not too long after Tony Roma's closed. Famous Dave's became Flyin' Cowboy.

On the Southside, developers aren't foaming out the mouth trying to buy or develop land. My best guess is that the Ryan's up the street will move to the OLD Golden Corral location.
