There is also a huge one at the College Park Shopping Center on the edge of campus on RT. 1. One of the largest Starbuck's I've seen.

Yeah I know those but if you live towards the Southern part of the campus closer to the WholeFoods the nearest coffeeshop is in Hyattsville--Vigilante. Still hoping the old autoshop is turned into a coffee/wine bar. But a coffeeshop would make sense for students who live there.

No doubt. To be honest, it's only a 10 minute walk to the Shopping Center with the HUGE Starbucks. And I don't doubt that a coffee shop will be one of the retailers. I just don't think Starbucks locates so many stores in one area like that. Remember, there's a Starbucks at the PG Plaza Metro as well. If one more was added, you'd have as many Starbucks in the area as 7-Elevens. That's unheard of. At least in this county.

And this doesn't even include Riverdale Park station which undoubtedly will have it's own coffee shop. And since a Hyatt House will be going there, that's a potential Starbucks site more so than Terrapin Row.

Notice that the luxury hotel being built didn't land its own Starbucks. Probably because Rt.1 would have been saturated with them.

Introducing the College Park Lidl! Not too flashy, not too understated. Wish there was more glass, but not a bad design overall.

I just remembered there is also a Starbucks inside the new Safeway as well.

Apparently there are updated plans for the new Cole Field house on campus. Personally, I like the newer plans.

Old Plans

New Plans

Notice the new walkway from the new field house to the football stadium. There's a big terrapin thing at the base. There are more buildings and more glass. Did they get more money or something?

Council approved Lidl DSP.

Quote:
Three members of the Prince George's County Planning Board unanimously approved all of the College Park City Council's recommendations for the German grocery store Lidl, which is scheduled to be built at the site of the Clarion Inn on Route 1, said College Park Planning Director Terry Schum.

The council voted to approve the detailed site plan on Oct. 11, Schum said. Despite a 30-day period when parties involved can appeal the plan, the council is expected to approve the final version of the plan at the end of the 30 days.

Last I heard was that they are closing their College Park store and consolidating into the new one. No idea when they will close. Perhaps College Park officials can convince them to remain open.

Hopefully they keep it open to see if there is any customer drop off. If not, I don't see why they can't remain open if they can sustain both locations. It seems silly to make your current customers travel into DC if they don't have to. There is enough density at the location in DC for there not to be a need to consolidate. There are thousands of apartments and offices coming online in that part of DC.
